Sen. Arlen Specter Defects From Republican Party.

I meant to blog on this last week, but got a little sidetracked with something I like to call “real life.”  So, I’m blogging on it now.

It seems that Arlen Specter has decided to jump ship and leave the Republican Party in favor of rejoining the Democratic Party (the party he left in the 1960s).  According to all of the newspaper reports and GOP e-mails, I should be outraged by this, but I’m not.  In fact, my official response is “so what?”

Arlen Specter is an irrelevant man who is trying to make himself needed.  To see this point illustrated, just check out the U.S. Senate website (senate.gov).  They cannot even be bothered to spell his name correctly half the time.  He has always been a Democrat, even when he carried the little “R” by his name.  He has never stood fast by core-conservative values and was, at best, a R.I.N.O. (Republican in name only) to begin with.  Now that he is accurately describing himself, I’m supposed to be upset?  Not me.  I’m glad that he has stopped pretending so that the conservatives in Pennsylvania can now take the hint and kick his butt out of office at the next opportunity.

It is better to have a clearly identified adversary than one who pretends to be your ally.  So, to you, Mr. Specter, I say good riddance.
